GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ONLINE JOURNAL CME ON CTSNET
Definition of CME
Continuing Medical Education (CME) consists of educational activities which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public, or the profession. The content of CME is that body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public.
An updated table of state-by-state CME requirements is maintained by the AMA. For detailed information, please visit http://www.ama-assn.org/ama1/pub/upload/mm/40/table16.pdf.
AATS and STS estimate the time the average physician needs in order to complete this activity. Physicians are required to keep track of the time spent on the activity and claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The AATS and STS have determined that the Online Journal CME activities found in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery are eligible for up to 1 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM each.
